our Story

Erin opened Prickly Poppy in 2013 with stars in her eyes and frosting on her apron.  After taking a few years off to focus on her growing family, good friend, turned business partner, Adrienne convinced Erin that it was time to dust off the old kitchen-aid and get back to the oven.  Now, with renewed stars in their eyes, and fresh frosting on their aprons Erin + Adrienne are pleased to introduce you to the re-imagined Prickly Poppy Bakery.  With 6 kids to raise between the pair, let's just say priorities have shifted from the pre-kid days.  Prickly Poppy is an outlet for creativity, an expression of love for family, and an opportunity to instill virtue.  All Prickly Poppy goods are still expertly crafted but also specifically designed with family in mind.  Erin + Adrienne are both big believers in hands-on parenting and hope that their products will help foster fun, family bonding time in your home.  From cookie decorating kits, to ice 'em yourself scones, Prickly Poppy brings you the fun (and yumminess) of homemade, without quite so much of the mess.

Erin Van Kirk

Pastry Chef Erin Van Kirk was professionally trained at the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. She has held positions at the celebrated Georgetown Cupcake (of the hit TLC reality show "DC Cupcakes"), Oak Cliff's beloved Bolsa and Bolsa Mercado, and Dallas' favorite brunch spot Breadwinner's Cafe .

Erin's work at The Prickly Poppy combines the influence of the great chefs she has had the pleasure of working with, as well as recipes passed down through family tradition (cause sometimes Grandma just knows best!).  With three daughters of her own begging to help in the kitchen, family tradition take on a whole new meaning.
